Job Description

The Senior Category Manager will manage the Category Team, build supplier relationships, and act as a business partner to operational and corporate departments. They will deliver complex or high-value procurements and contracts that balance the demands of service delivery in a dynamic, multi-site acute hospital. They will also provide expert procurement advice, ensure a highly professional procurement service, and promote leading procurement practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Category Team and support team members
  • Provide expert procurement advice to operational and corporate departments
  • Ensure the procurement service is seen as a highly professional and enabling business partnering service
  • Promote leading procurement practices internally and externally
  • Negotiate high-value or complex, multi-year contracts for services
  • Manage contracts on behalf of the Trust
  • Develop and deliver commercial procurement strategies at a divisional level
  • Support the delivery of strategic procurement and commercial opportunities
  • Assess markets and competitive behaviour
  • Develop and implement service policies and processes
  • Maintain catalogues and analyze procurement data
  • Manage staff in the Category Team
  • Participate in the Trust's appraisal process
  • Identify their own learning needs

Qualifications and Skills:

  • MCIPS Chartered Professional Status or equivalent professional development
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentational skills
  • Analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience in staff management, staff development, and recruitment
  • Procurement leadership positions within a complex, service-delivery focused organization is preferred.
