Morson Talent are currently looking for an Internal Hazards Engineer to join a nuclear construction site in Suffolk.

Job Purpose / Overview
Design Authority is:
• the intelligent customer for the safety case through undertaking technical oversight during licensing, procurement, manufacture, construction, commissioning and operation
• the part of the project that understands, owns and controls the safety case during the design and construction phase
• responsible for maintaining design integrity.
In their intelligent customer role, the role holder will be required to advise the project teams and the Responsible Designer on the adequacy of safety case and safety case deliverables.
The role holder will need to develop effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, the Responsible Designer.
external regulators (e.g. ONR and EA) and suppliers.

Principal Accountabilities
• To understand the safety case elements related to the internal hazards topic
• Be the Internal Hazards topic lead on all aspects of internal hazards topic, following a period of development and transition
• Identification, specification, production or review of design basis internal hazards assessments
• To develop or review strategies and methodologies for managing and assessing risks from internal hazards, including those specific to the project (e.g. Turbine Disintegration, changes to risks due to plot plan changes etc)
• Understand, and be able to explain to others, the general provisions for protection from hazards
• Manage the production and development of the sections of the site-specific safety case
• Support the system groups in the Nuclear Services Organisation and the project in developing changes to the safety case
• Work effectively and maintain a strong relationship with all Engineering and Regulatory bodies
• Co-ordinate support from other external organisations

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

Qualifications and Experience:
• Degree or equivalent in physical science, maths or engineering
• Chartered engineer status would be desirable.

Technical and Commercial Knowledge and Skills:
• Demonstrable evidence of complex safety case management/production within the nuclear industry with particular emphasis on hazards safety cases
• Identification and resolution of issues and development work within the life cycle of nuclear plant construction through to operational level
• Excellent organisational skills
• Ability to operate autonomously or as part of a team
• Understanding the needs of quality
• Decision making capability for resolution of safety case issues
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.

Location: Based in our Suffolk, London, Gloucester office with hybrid working available
