Job Description

RTL Group are looking for a site quantity surveyor to work for a leading marine civil engineering contractor in shoreham and surrounding areas!

The Site Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial success and smooth operation of marine civil engineering projects. They are responsible for a wide range of tasks, requiring strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. This position necessitates a deep understanding of quantity surveying principles, cost control practices, and marine civil engineering specifics.

Quantity Surveyor Requirements:

  • Quantity measurement and estimation: Gathering on-site data to estimate materials, labour, and equipment needed for marine construction projects, then collaborating with engineers to create detailed cost breakdowns.
  • Cost control and budget management: Tracking project spending against budgets, helping to create forecasts, and implements cost-saving measures.
  • Procurement and supply chain management: Sourcing materials, equipment, and subcontractors for marine construction projects, negotiating best deals and ensuring on-time delivery.
  • Contract administration and variation management: Ensuring all contracts and changes are properly documented and managed to minimize project risks and disputes.
  • Risk assessment and mitigation: Pinpointing project risks, crafting plans to address them, and monitoring those plans to keep the project on track.
  • Quality assurance and compliance: Safeguarding project quality and safety by checking adherence to plans, coordinating inspections, and documenting any issues.
  • Stakeholder communication and reporting: Analysing project finances through cost-value reconciliation and earned value analysis, identifying areas for improvement and suggesting corrective actions.
  • Continuous improvement and personal development: Continuous learning to stay on top of industry developments and share knowledge for project optimisation.

Essential experience and skills

  • 5 years experience of UK marine construction and/or quantity surveying
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying
  • A working knowledge of marine plant and lifting equipment
  • Some knowledge of the offshore construction industry
  • A solid understanding of HSE standards, regulations, reporting procedures, risk assessment and method statement requirements
  • Familiarity with planning software and running the site cost forecast
  • The ability to work proactively within the team in generating marketing leads and maintaining client relationships
